w.bloggar Portable is a standalone, no-installation version of w.bloggar, a classic desktop blogging client designed for Microsoft Windows.
Created by Marcelo Cabral in the early 2000s, it acted as a centralized interface allowing users to write, format, and manage multiple blogs locally without needing to use a web browser. Key Features
Zero Installation: The portable version can be unzipped into any folder or run directly from a USB flash drive, making it completely independent of the host PC’s registry.
Offline Composing: Users can write, format, and save blog posts locally without an active internet connection. Posts can then be published with a single click once online.
Multi-Platform Support: In its prime, it supported popular early blogging engines through APIs like XML-RPC, including WordPress, Movable Type, Typepad, Drupal, and Blogger.
HTML Editor & Preview: It features a dedicated colorized HTML text editor equipped with custom hotkeys and formatting tags alongside an integrated tab to preview exactly how the post will look live.
Template Editing: Beyond standard posts, it gives advanced users direct access to pull down and edit main or archive blog layout templates directly from the client. Current Status & Open Source Revival
With the rise of rich, browser-based web editors (like AJAX and modern content management dashboards) in the late 2000s, the developer officially retired the project around 2007.
However, in 2019, the original developer officially released the source code on the w.bloggar GitHub Repository. The source code has since been updated with minor bug fixes and modern compatibility adjustments for newer versions of Windows.
